FAQs

WHAT IS SHRUB?

The history of Shrub dates back to 18th century, when barrels of smuggled contraband were hidden on the sea bed, to avoid the customs and excise officers. Often salt water would taint the oak casks so the addition of the sweet, citrus shrub cordials would be used to mask the briny aftertaste.

Made from fresh citrus, sugar and spices, our shrub cordials are traditionally partnered with rum but also taste great with soda water.

WHO ARE SEVENSTONES?

Sevenstones was founded by two friends in West Cornwall after a rum-fuelled evening. The name takes inspiration from the treacherous Seven Stones Reef located nearly 15 miles NW of Land's End, Cornwall.

HOW IS YOUR SHRUB MADE?

We carefully source and select local botanicals, herbs, spices and peels that go into each batch of our shrub cordials.

The ingredients are initially steeped in our stainless steel mash-tun before being transferred to the infusion tank and left to mature before being pasteurised, filtered and bottled.

Each batch is currently hand-made in small runs of 200 bottles and stays true to the original recipes taken from books published in the 18th century.
